Camping!
Oh how I wish we had actually stayed the night. We went up for the day where the family was staying in Roan Mountain. As soon as I set foot on the ground I was overwhelmed by bittersweet memories of former camping trips there, especially one. This time was wonderful. It was so thrilling to see my kids enjoying grass and dirt. It really makes me want to give them a backyard somehow.
Highlights included Bug dancing with some old timey redneck group called the Roan Mountain Moonshiners, a trip to the playground where Gus tried to eat rocks, and splashing with our new rainbow boots in the creek. Oh, and I’ll stand by my earlier statement. Not much beats snuggling a baby by a campfire.
